Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre (VASCSC)

The Vikram A Sarabhai Community Science Centre (VASCSC) was established in 1966 by Dr Vikram A. Sarabhai as the first initiative of the Nehru Foundation for Development. Conceived as a space where science could be experienced, questioned, and enjoyed, VASCSC has played a pioneering role in shaping science education in India.

From its inception, the Centre has sought to move beyond rote learning and textbook-driven instruction. Its work is grounded in the belief that science education should spark curiosity, encourage questioning, and help learners connect scientific ideas with everyday life.

Mandate and Approach

VASCSC works to promote scientific temper and strengthen science, technology, engineering, and mathematics education through experiential, inquiry-based, and hands-on learning approaches. Its programmes are designed to make science accessible, engaging, and meaningful for learners across ages and backgrounds.

The Centre places strong emphasis on teacher professional development, curriculum enrichment, and public engagement with science.
